shoveling

i think a snowy day really brings people together - neighbours in particular. it brings everyone outside at the same time and allows us to engage in conversation, which i think is pretty nice.
this one gentleman almost shoveled me right off the sidewalk because he was so concentrated on his work, and then we had a laugh together. then, slightly up the street another man stopped for me to pass by and said "well, it had to happen sometime." i like having conversations, even small ones with the people who live in my neighbourhood.

calico

this is my current desktop background. i got it from the pixelgirl website and it's really cute. usually i go through a new desktop every month or so, but i've had this one on since christmas. it's nice to look at.

mcqueen, you'll be missed

in light of recent tragic news, i would like to make a post dedicated to alexander mcqueen. he has allegedly taken his own life, but i haven't been too interested to dig too deeply into this. the fashion world has lost an icon today.

hearts in the park

seems like the "i miss you" bandit is up to his/her old tricks again. i saw this on my walk to work this morning. just in time for the big valenslime day!

i miss you

i walk through trinity bellwoods all the time and have seen this sign up on the tennis court fence for at least half a year - could be longer. i really want to know the story behind this one.

tacos!

my friend ross came over and cooked us a mean batch of vegan tortillas. he made the shells from scratch, it was ridiculous. if you visit his blog he's going to post how to make it all - i can't steal the glory.
anyway, this is the guacamole we made. it was so limey and delicious! i think he might have squeezed 2 full limes into the guac. we devoured it.

comedy

i went out to see some comedy last night at the smallest venue ever (rearview mirror in kensington market). it's called the 'short notice show' and it was the 1 year anniversary. i didn't take any notes on the show or anything, mostly because when i arrived i was greeted with a special cookie as a gift from the hosts of the show - how nice of them!
the show ran from about 9pm until about 11:30 and was a barrel of laughs. it's great to get out and do some laughing. if you or anyone you know likes intimate comedy shows and/or laughing, check this show out. it's on every month on the first thursday at the rearview mirror in kensignton market.

also speaking about laughing, it was my co-workers birthday yesterday and the people i work with thought it would be a real gas to write this message for him as a special birthday keepsake. (it's a joke of course)

my turntable wants

happy tuesday.

i've been on the hunt for this bad boy for about a year, maybe longer. i check the M and J section of any record store i go into. i have only come across a repress and a scratched original for $15 that I probably should have picked up for the listenable tracks, but i'm determined to find this damn thing in good shape - original press of course.

additionally, i'd love to get my hands on this too. the mp3s are sufficing for now, but i'm also on the hunt for this one.

also, i bumped into marie louise parker last night at the movie theatre and was really star-stuck. she was wearing black uggs.

on my turntable

if you like folk and/or mono recordings you should find this and listen to it. i think it's really good.

you can stream it online on the cbc website, or others i'm sure. for a little taste, check out this link:
